Metafields add the fields Shopify does not ship with: a care guide on products, a trade price note, a delivery date on orders.
Pick the resource to extend. Products is the usual place to start.
Add a definition: a name, a namespace and key, and a content type. The definition describes the field once.
Values are then set per product, in the metafields section at the bottom of each product page.
Show a metafield on the storefront by connecting it to a theme block with the dynamic source button in the theme editor.
