Shopify Replatforming Runbook
The design gets the attention. The URL mapping decides whether the traffic survives. This runbook puts the inventory first and DNS last.
What Is In The Shopify Replatforming Runbook
- The URL inventory, with what to record against each one.
- Both lists of paths Shopify will not redirect from.
- The precondition on every redirect, and why it is not what it first appears.
- Redirect volume limits, and what multiple locales do to them.
- The four data routes Shopify names, and what each covers.
- The import order, which is not optional, and the notification step before it.
- A cutover sequence that puts DNS last, and a week after checklist.
Why The Inventory Comes First
Some of your URLs cannot be redirected at all, and you cannot tell which until you have the list. Doing it before the design is signed off leaves time to decide about the exceptions commercially rather than discover them at cutover.
The full reasoning is in the article this accompanies: Shopify Migration Is A Redirect Project.

The Shopify store audit is free. The form asks for your store URL and a note on what is eating the time. A migration you are nervous about is a reasonable thing to put in that box.
