Process Audit Sheet

By Graham O'Shea, Founder and Lead Developer  ·  1 August 2026  ·  Part of The Agentic AI Guide

Most automation shortlists are written from complaints. This sheet works from the process instead, and from the five patterns Anthropic names.

What Is In The Process Audit Sheet

  • A process map template, step by step, with who does what.
  • Where the time actually goes, which is often not where the complaints are.
  • The workflow or agent question, with both halves of the condition.
  • The five patterns and the situation each one suits, quoted.
  • A column for steps that are a rules problem rather than a model problem.
  • Context load, and why a step needing everything at once is different.
  • What to take to a scoping conversation.

Why It Starts With The Process

Anthropic's guidance turns on whether a task is well defined, and on whether flexibility and model-driven decision making are needed at scale. Neither is answerable from a complaint. Both are answerable from a process map, which is why the sheet asks for one first.

The full reasoning is in the article this accompanies: Which Steps Actually Deserve AI Workflow Automation.

Prefer Someone To Look At Your Process?

The scoping audit is free. The form asks for your website or store URL and a note on what is eating the time, and a process you are unsure about is a reasonable thing to put in that box.
